The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has decided to add five more candidates to Hollywood's top prize, doubling its previous number, in an attempt to boost the show's ratings.
Increasing the number of films presented for the top categories allows room for beloved fan favorites to be recognized. If more of the popular, high grossing films are acknowledged, more people will tune in to see if their favorite film will win.

The Oscars to me are all about what the stars wear and not so much on what awards are being given out. The only category I'm generally interested in is best picture. The fact that they added canidates for a few categories really doesn't mean a thing to me. We all know who will take every award this year!
I think it was a smart idea to get ratings but just because they add 5 more movies doesn't mean the winner will be any different.
I get the point they are trying to make by doing this. More people will tune in if it will guarantee them the chance to see their favorite celebrities. I just hope it doesn't take away from the deserving nominees.
