BlogHer Hits the Road to Boost its Membership and Awareness

Online women's network BlogHer is planning a six-city “Reach Out” tour to expand the number of its bloggers and boost brand awareness. The tour will start on October 11 in Boston and from there travel to four or five other cities. It will host one-day blogging workshops that highlight the benefits of women blogging and being part of an online community. The organization is seeking to involve aspiring bloggers in other parts of the country.

I think this tour is a great idea for the blogging community in general but also for women. It gives them a chance to understand what an online community really is, what the benefits are from being apart of one, and what steps to take to become part of one. It would give someone like my mom, who is technology/computer illeterate, a chance to be a part of something that is growing in our world today.

I agree that this is an important step to get women (and others) acquainted with the growing online community. This would be even better if there were more than six cities on the tour. Like yours, my mom is not at all computer savvy, although she has some of the basics down. It makes me sad when I have to remind her to do something simple...like use the MINIMIZE button instead of the X!

Ha, I'm laughing at APUTNEY's comment about her Mom hitting the X button instead of minimize. I would love to see the women in my family become more computer savvy. Instead of those 30 minute phone calls we get from our mom's, they can ventilate online on a blog! Instead of blah-blah-blah, they could blog-blog-blog!!! I want to check and see if BlogHer is stopping in Dallas or Miami. If so, my family has got to go!

My mother-in-law used to send these emails she called her Daily Saga. Fun times in Chillicothe, MO, a small northern Missouri town that is the home of sliced bread. We finally convinced her to do it on a blog. Yes, Brenda, much better to have them blog.

I agree with everyone in that this would definately help out our parents generation. With 2.0 media taking over the business world this is exactly what women need to keep up with the fast-paced business world. From the looks of it we should all send our moms!
