Lindsay Lohan made about $3,500 for one tweet: "These challenges for college kids on #CampusLIVE are SO addicting!" CampusLIVE.com, a website that helps connect advertisers and college aged students paid the actress for the tweet after polling the their interns to determine which celebrity would help generate buzz for the company. It is estimated that Lohan's tweet generated 4,500 clicks for the website.
I think this can be a double edged sword. Traditional advertisements can be expensive and the target audience through those outlets might be harder to reach. With social media, you can choose a celebrity spokesperson with followers who have similar interests and know immediately the number of impressions possible. However, will consumers begin to see this as merely an advertising ploy and start to discount the celebrity tweets?

Wow! Lohan made $3500 for one tweet?! That is so ridiculous. And if she is participating in these "college activities" she needs reevaluate her free time and get her priorities in check. Seems like the ex-parent trap redhead has gone down a rough path these past few years. I love and own that movie on VHS by the way! I can honestly say that I used to be a fan.
I had no idea celebs got paid for tweets, but it makes sense. Of course we'll hear about Lohan (who's gonna be in Playboy soon -- guess she needs the money), but I wonder how many 'mainstream' celebrities are getting paid for their Twitter endorsements?
If Lindsey Lohan made $3,500 off one tweet, it makes me wonder how much Kim Kardashian gets whenever she mentions Sketchers Shape-Ups (because she used to do that all the time).
It's just crazy how much some people get paid to do the smallest things!
I think that takes away any truth or genuine promotion of the brand. You don't know when a celebrity is a true fan of something, or just doing it to get paid.
