Due to the commonality of the use of the word "website", the AP Stylebook officially changed "Web site" to "website" via Twitter.
Many people contacted the AP saying that they preferred the single word method, also arguing that "'Web site' is an antiquated way of writing it.
This is a good recent example of the way that language changes and evolved due to usage and the drive for a uniform method of writing.

It is about time! it is just so much easier to write
Finally. Capitalizing the W in website made it into this demigod of words. It's just the internet. Get over the capitalization.
