The cow says moo. The Shaq says "tweet"
Hey Kobe, can you tell us how Shaq's blog tastes? After an impostor posed as Shaquille O' Neal on the social media site, Twitter, the Phoenix Suns decided to have its star center join the site and begin unmonitored "tweeting." While traveling with the team, Shaq posted more than 250 updates and gained more than 34,000 followers. Many other players also use the media tool to connect with fans and the business world. The Suns have also implemented a team-run blog site and another networking site called PlanetOrange.net. The fans are able to keep in touch with the team and its players as well as discussing team news with other fans. I think this is a great example at how social media has become an important part of business and image building for companies. This is a great idea with a lot of room to evolve. Many teams will begin using this model to enhance community relations. For more info check out the article.

Social media is starting to take over. I think this just shows people that twitter and other social media is not only for professionals but everyone. By Shaq using twitter I think it will enourage more people our age to use it too.
This is the perfect example of the positive impact social media can have. This was a great opportunity for the sports team to really engage with their fans on a personal level. After reading the article and learning more about how they hosted "tweet ups" it made clear how this can be used for any organization to bring people with common interests together and really get the word out about a cause or purpose.
I am going to sound like a star-stuck child saying this, but I think it is so cool that celebrities are using Twitter now. Americans are so obsessed with our celebrities, I think its great that they have an immediate outlet that they can use to contact their fans. Not only does Twitter have a great SOCIAL aspect, but I think that through controlled messages, people could use Twitter in a great way for brand imaging.
Obviously, the legitimacy of social outlets such as twitter and myspace for connecting people is continuing to rise. From stars such as Tila Tequila on myspace, who has now had a few seasons of her own reality show, to Shaq, a man who has been well established, but now expands his reach with Twitter. The explosion of followers is proof that these tools are things Americans are now very in touch with. The influence of these networks will only continue to grow.
