Jewel's PR Prank

Singer/Actress Jewel received a lot of media attention this week for the first time in years. What did she do? She went undercover with funnyordie.com to a karaoke bar and sang her songs. When people were astonished at how good she was, she revealed who she was and the crowd cheered. Most people are framing this as a simple prank with no PR motive, but I think differently. Not so coincidentally, her first album in years, Sweet and Wild, was released less than 4 months ago. This is definitely part of the new trend going on with brands and celebrities trying new and different things to get noticed.

This is so cool! I really like Jewel, so I wanted to comment on this post. I actually saw someone post a facebook status with one of her new songs, too. I think Jewel is going to make a comeback. Also, I think this was definitely a PR stunt. It will be interesting to see if more celebs will change how they get media attention in the future!

I love when famous people do stuff like this. Before his concerts, John Mayer used to dress up in a bear costume and go outside and tell everyone how bad John Mayer sucks. It's hilarious.

Also, I didn't know Jewel was still around.

She's brilliant, because you know people remembered how much they used to like her songs back then, and went home and downloaded them. I love that girl.

Could you imagine being in a karaoke bar and jewel standing up to sing...I'm not a fan of hers but that would be a big treat! I agree with you in the pr thing though, with her album being released a few months ago, you know she was trying to get her name out in the public again.
