This is why PR gets paid the big bucks

J.C. Penney released a girls' shirt reading "I'm too pretty to do my homework so my brother has to do it for me."

Think it is too much? So did parents. Through social media sites, like Facebook and Twitter, more than 1,600 people signed a petition to get the shirt banned.

That is where the PR department comes in handy. The company pulled the shirt from the website, discontinued it and issued an apology to the customers. Harlan Loeb, EVP and director of US crisis and issues managment at Edelman, agrees with the strategy and applause their honesty.

As the PR consultants are high fiving and fist bumping, J.C. Penney will really see the results of any back lash when they report their store sales on Thursday. Soon, they will see if a really bad shirt and social media can really cause a stir big enough to hurt a huge company.

This is just another example of why young girls are growing up in such a poisonous environment. We sell t-shirts at J.C Penney of all places, where I used to shop when I was little, that say things like this. It makes boys, as well as girls, think it's o.k. to think that way. Ew.
