Last week it was announced that Texas State would be invited to join the division one Western Athletic Conference. This is a huge step for the bobcats in gaining national attention. Conference officials say they would like to invite all new members within the next 30 days. "It basically means that our athletics are going to the next level and that they're going to be in line with what we believe our university is, a big time Texas State institution," said Rich Koch.
I believe this is a great platform for Texas State to PR to stand on. Texas State has been shifting its image the past five years and this might be the big break we have been waiting for. If I were in charge of Texas State athletics PR I would be pitching this to anyone I could get my hands and notifying alumni to start building the excitement.
What do you think this means for Texas State?

This is exciting, and most probably what we've been looking for. However, do we want to jump at the first invitation? WAC doesn't produce many national contenders, and I think we're capable of that level. WAC doesn't seem to get much respect, outside of its own conference, so perhaps we should wait to see if we get another invitation that might be a little more prestigious?
Just rambling thoughts . . . having lived in NM, where the universities are in WAC, and having seen how WAC doesn't get much national attention.
I know from one aspect, we might want to wait until we actually have the invitation before we start pitching it. Therefore, we don't have to back track.
I agree. This will take 2 major steps before the celebration takes place:
1) We actually have to receive the invitation.
2) We have to stop getting run over, which we all have to accept WILL happen when we stop playing the glorified high-school programs that we are playing now.
Then we will be taken seriously as a program and can reap the benefits of this move.
